Updating SC2 pet pics

no votes yet? you all disapoint me. Sadly, I can't make/edit polls, so you'll need to vote by posting what your favorites are or by sending me a PM.

If I'm going to have Jon update pics, I want to make sure that they'll be ones that most people will like, not necessarily the ones I like.

EDIT: if I don't get a decent amount of votes from what I already have, I'm not going to think its worth my time to do the rest of them. This whole thing was originally to update the queen, as its the only pic with the wrong unit.

-unable to find a good image for the thor yet that matches how other icon are positioned

-I've got every icon saved as both a png and pdn format on my comp, as pdn allows me to save layers but is unable to be loaded onto photobucket.

thx Willy for telling me about png files. They work alot better at keeping images from getting color distortion.

 

Since I see the pets having smooth edges here's a disclaimer: old browsers can't handle png transparency. That's why gif is still prevalent among small images with a limited colour palette, like these pet icons. Long story short, if you want to appeal to as many people as possible, what with all the polls and everything, you ought to go for gifs.

 

didnt know old browsers had issues with pngs. I'll look into it.

I did try to get a good sc2 version, but the only close-up one is almost impossible to tell what exactly it is.

So are you doing all the pets from scratch, even the ones done by Blizzard?

 

No, im taking images from screenshots and SCwiki, deleting the background, turn it all black, add color to the team color sections to try to match the current pet colors a little more. Then resize a section down to a 38x38 area, add outer boarder on another layer at 255 opacity, add inner boarder on another at 77 opacity.

Then save it as both PDN and GIF files. PDN so I can save the layers and edit them if needed. GIF so they can be loaded to paintbucket and used online.

To do all 4 Thor images took me about 20 minutes, most of that time was editing the initial image to remove the background, recreate anything that was covered by something else, and add more color.

 

...that doesn't answer my question lol? By scratch I didn't mean you paint them yourself.

 

Blizzard's making icons similar to whats being used in the shop?
