sorry for this quote, but i just want to clear it away from the rest of that mini wall.

The strangest thing is that traditionally the werewolf never was weak to silver, that was added somewhere in the 19th century. they were weak to wolf's bane and that is it tho in other countries they were weak to rye, mistletoe, and mountain ash.

I'd rather be a vampire, always wanted to fly (actually fly, not airplane, etc), and one common thing about the vampire is turning into a bat.

Just gotta watchout for the sun and wooden stakes.

LOL at you flying into a fence and getting a stake through your heart as soon as you get turned.

I don't know, vampire would be easier to hide so you wouldn't have to hide so much.

well werewolves can transform, they could easily fit alongside humans, too. but, Phoe brought up a good point. there are more than just werewolves and vampires out there. we have phoenixes, as well. then we hae to bring in things like dragons as well =P

Vampires don't have to transform to hide among humans, though some very attune humans can sense if a vampire is near. As for the head bit, if it isn't reattached soon enough then we die, but if it is, it will grow back together. The sun kills vampires below a certain age, you will rarely see one over said age, as we tend to shy from mortal contact, seeing as our skin is so pale, it's like we're made of marble. The mirror bit is just plain false, and even if it was true, what are you ever going to use it for to defeat a vampire? As for the garlic, we just have extremely sensitive noses, and garlic is a very potent smell, most of us dislike it to such an extent, that we flee from it's horrible smell.

WereWolves can jump pretty high themselves, so the height advantage is null anyway, unless we actually start flying.

i created it like so because 1. vampires usually hate werewolves, and vise-versa. and 2. if i tried to make a thread that contains all type of mythological and supernatural creatures, it would still overflow the 50 limited options, and then people would be like "you didnt add so-and-so, and what-you-call-it", and i dont like using other as a options because it be to vague because a lot of people tend to vote without ever posting what they want to be so then if we get a lot of others, we would not know what people would want to be what.

That's an interesting point Lurker's, I would say wolf's bane should be a more powerful weakness to werewolfs, but I still think silver should be a weakness as well if for no other reason than a plant isn't much of a weakness. Which brings me to my general idea of mythological creatures, I think everything should have some sort of strength and weakness, if a mythological creature doesn't seem to have many weaknesses (modern vampires come to mind here) I a more willing to expect their weaknesses vs. their strengths. On the flip side if a creature doesn't seem to have any strengths I am more willing to acknowledge their strengths vs. their weaknesses.

Note, the above doesn't mean I think on balance all mytological creatures should be equal, just that they should all have some weakness to make them beatable (I hate it when one things is > all) and they should have some sort of strength or how are they mithological?

    LK said traditional lore.

In a fight i'm betting a werewolf would win because of more brute force enabled and built more for combat.

I would say werewolfs have more brute strength than vampires, but vampires are a lot more agile so they could out manuever a werewolf. Hence why I orignally said I think it would be easier for a vampire to make a killing blow vs. a werewolf.

I will have to go with Vampires because they are more civilized and nostalgic kind of monster. Werewolves are more like mindless beasts driven by hunger when not human and only turn into werewolves during full moons. Vampires have more intelligence in my opinion and more abilities as their disposal. You don't see werewolves having their own castles and harems.

However Vampires and Werewolves have different characteristics based on the fiction you are reading. Personally I like the style of vampires over werewolves even though both are cool.

Also this brings to mind the new Underworld movie that is coming out soon that is a prequel to the other 2 and feature the back story and main war between the Vampires and Lycans. you can watch the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnqHbqgPpZc

chef, once again, it depends on which lore you're speaking of. several myths state the vampire as being blood thirsty, malicious, and a killer.

That is the very old early myths of vampires where they were more like actual deformed monsters than the more "romantic" type of modern vampire.

You are right though, we can not really argue this at all if we don't have a specific reference point to go from meaning what kind of Vampire and Werewolf we are talking about.
