There's no tactic, just speed. It's obvious Blizzard didn't plan for them originally, else, there'd just be Zealots, Lings, and Marines.
You have got to be kidding. Moving workers away from their designated role to a ramp to block, lifting off to counter focus fire which is extremely crucial in low-unit battles, using the workers' "no clipping" to fend off the enemy... the list could go on. You need to be fast in late game too, it's just that the consequences aren't as clear as in early game. And your second point is also moot. That's like saying people who melee in FPS games are lame because the game has devastating missile weapons.
