True blood is red because it is all of what we see.. But 50-60% of the blood is a yellowish color.

What the poll definitely proves is that 16 (currently) voters are uninformed* or have an unique** sense of humor.

    *read stupid.

Also, there are just far too many variables. Blood isn't just one homogeneous liquid, like milk or wine. It all depends on what you counts as blood. If you're talking in terms of the oxygenated haemoglobin, which is what is seen if you cut yourself, then it's a very deep red. If you're talking in terms of the deoxygenated haemoglobin, which is pure blood in the strictest sense, then it's bluish purple. If you're talking in terms of the plasma, which makes up the greatest proportion of the blood, then it's a clearish yellow.

Okay, then I should have just put what is the color of your blood in your veins for you freaking picky people. I meant blood in general, because most people just say, "Oh, well since your veins are blue, then the blood must be blue too!" That's just stupid... And people, please stop making other things about the question, I mean the color of normal people's blood in general because Deoxygenated or Oxygenated, they are all RED!

No. Deoxygenated blood is a bluish purple. Blood only appears red when then haemoglobin is oxygenated. Get rid of the oxygen and it's bluey purple. I find it amusing that you're blatantly labelling everyone who chose blue in your public poll as being stupid when you don't even know the facts yourself.

@Darktemplar_L: You're confusing the whole concept here. We only see blood in a bright red color outside of the body because the hemoglobin in the blood cells pick up the oxygen in the air. Even if you cut a vein open the blood in it will turn bright red because there's oxygen in the atmosphere the hemoglobin can take up. To answer your question, blood in the majority of veins are a dark, almost brownish, red. The reason I say "majority" of veins is because veins are any blood vessels that carry blood to the heart. The pulmonary veins (the ones from your lungs to the heart) actually carry oxygenated blood which are a bright red in color.

The blood found in veins is a dark reddish purple, yes, but that's because a lot of that blood still contains oxygen. It's still about three quarters oxygenated. Deoxygenated blood, by with I mean deoxygenated blood, i.e. blood which contains no oxygen because it's been deoxygenated, is a bluish purple. That's why the blood in your veins is darker. It's a mix of mostly oxygenated blood and deoxygenated blood.
