@ JimRaynor , please try to condense your posts as double posting is not permitted on the forum.

Secondly, a lot of the ideas that Ron Paul has put forward are great. They're all well and good. But he has absolutely no backing of popular opinion, etc...

That, my friend, is because he has made too many problems. You're starting to sound like a propaganda record with pre-made responses and rhetoric.

If he were to drop some of the more ridiculous goals that he has stated (which undoubtedly will never occur) and went for a purely progressive agenda that aimed at reform, I might think more positively of him.

We've talked about public campaign funds rather than donations. I really think something like that which changes the way the system works would work better than some of the ideas he is spewing, and you are spewing for him.

I don't want to hear rhetoric about the power the government has over us, and the need to even further lower taxes. Or to get the government out of your life (this doesn't work. It's just more rhetoric). Government regulation is as often a good thing as it is a bad thing.

A couple things need to go that would make me think about Ron Paul (or any other candidate):

The Patriot Act is far too encompassing. I mean, when you're going to the Bank and it's affecting you in how you can open an account, that's just a little too far-reaching. It needs to have its powers limited, and needs to require more balance to the President's power.

Campaign fund reform. It's going to cause a huge uproar within the parties, but if the ideas got out there, it might actually happen.

Im sorry joneagle, please give forgive me.

I dont think its quite fair to say Ron Paul has no backing. I also dont think you should vote based on popularity. I think for the most part, all of us want the best president regardless of what party or creed he/she comes from. Recent polls agree with that assessment.
If you want more details on how popular Ron Paul is on the internet, ill link you to a website with some info. I will admit that Ron Paul doesnt have a huge offline support or mainstream media coverage. Ron Paul does every well at straw polls and at online polls. He has the most myspace friends among republicans. And his Youtube channel has the most views of any candidate. Go to this website: http://techpresident.com/ to see how the candidates are utilizing the internet.
Its true that national polls show him at single digits, but this may not be a accurate description of his support. Pollsters often rely on landlines to gauge their polls and many of Paul's supporterts are young and use cellphones. After televised debates, he usually wins the text-in vote after it.
Many of the information about who you think is winning is given to you by the mainstream media. In my opinion much of support for Hillary,RUdy and the others guys are shallow and easily swayed. Ron Paul's supporters are loyal and hard-core. No other candidates has the enthuastic following as Ron Paul.

It may be difficult for you to understand his ideas because of what the Media has been feeding you. But I can assure you he doesnt have a "lot of problems". None of his ideas are ridiculous, they just have been forgotten and ignored.
You say that some of what Ron Paul is saying is just Rhetoric. On the contrary, he is one of the few candidates who isnt just speaking rhetoric. His voting record is superb. He voted against the patriot act. Unlike Clinton and others. He voted against the iraq war, unlike Clinton...He supported a bill that would force the congress to declare war.
He has been the sole voice on many occassions and has been the most consistent Man of princle of any of the candidates.

So in conclusion, many of ideas are similar to that of Thomas Jefferson but are geared towards today's problems and he has a strict following of the constitution.
I'd also like to speak about this government regulation thing. Ron Paul believes in small government just as many of the founding fathers did. Ron Paul supports limited government regulation. But what Ron Paul really is against is the idea that the government is gonna take care of you from tomb to womb. Its not the government's job to provide you with everything and its also not good at doing it.
So, small government is what has proven itself in history. The best government is the one that governs least.
The last thing we need is more power to the government and for our president to be able to strip away your citizenship and jail you forever, without trial, lawyer all by just calling you a terrorists. If you want to stop these changes and return us to a great and peaceful democracy, than Vote.

I apologize. I made a typo in my previous post.

I mean that Paul is bringing up too many issues. Not too many problems. I think a progressive candidate (and I think Paul is trying for this title despite running in the Republican primary) should be bringing up a specific list of 4-5 issues that would be the strong points of his platform.

What I mean to say is that I don't want him to offer opinions on what he would do across a broad spectrum of issues, but rather focus on the most pressing ones that would effect the most changes both immediately and down the line.

Why is he running with the Republican party? It just doesn't make sense to me, not to mention that it nullifies my support for him in the primary since I'm a registered Democrat (yuck).

I don't agree with the two party system currently in place. It doesn't allow for change or for the less priviledged to earn their place.

I want a candidate who offers election reform, and that's not going to come from either of the two parties.

    My vote stands with O'Bama.

Wow you didn't know of the statute of limitations for the presidency?

Presidency limited to 2 terms (8 years)
Must be 35 years old, natural born citizen(born in US)... so you're plans for world domination aren't lookin' good.

Senate is limited to 6 terms, I believe.........

House is unlimited to the best of my knowledge. Very tired right now though..could be wrong.

Yeah, pretty much on the dot Joneagle.

What bugs me the most really is the stance all the candidates have on big subjects such as Iraq. Nearly all of them say that they're gonna pull out of Iraq and how everything will be fine and dandy again, when in reality its not that simple. I can probably assure you that most of the candidates know that they can't just leave Iraq now, even Hillary knows that. The reason why all these politicians say this is because that's what the mob wants to hear, and since the majority of the mob doesn't know any better, that's what they'll expect. It's just a bit annoying

I find myself to be Independent. I really hate the party system we have now, but I guess that's how it is and we just have to work with it

I don't think I'll vote either. Real people aren't even appointed as candidates these days. Just my opinion.

Ron Paul has my vote thus far...

All candidates promise things they will not deliver, or will take years to deliver... however I like Ron Paul's opinions, I also like he is a Doctor, I like he served in our military, I like he is serving in congress dealing with foreign policy specifically... and seeing as he sounds most radical right now I believe big changes will come with his election because nothing succeeds like excess.

you can vote for yourself, and your country too. We need big reform and a new change. You guys can vote for whoever you want, but think about who you are voting for? Are you voting for a Name or for issues? The last thing we need is for someone like Rudy Guilian or Hillary Clinton becoming presdient just because their famous or they were there on 9/11.
Ron Paul's stand's are simple and following the words of the constitution and the advice of the founders.
He was also a good friend of Ronald Reagan. Ron Paul was one of only a few supporters of Reagan when he first began his campaign.
So, for once, lets vote for someone who will actually follow thier Oath of Office and that man is Ron Paul.

P.S. Last quarter Ron Paul raised 5 million dollars. That is a increase of 114% from last quarter. That is in contrast to 3 of his republican rivals who decreased in donations by as much as 55%. He doesnt have as much as them, but he is rising. If you go to his website, you can see a LIVE counter of his donations for his next quarter in real time.

Here is a hot new video about Ron Paul that came about 1 day ago:
