Will the roles you played in sc1 become characters in sc2?

All the guys you played in BW are dead according to Blizzard. They said that at their lore panel from Blizzcon.

 

You guys aren't grasping this concept. Artanis was the executor in starcraft. Does that make him dead? No. Even though the magistrate that we played as isn't a real character, Jim Raynor probably talked to somebody. I'm just trying to put other characters in that place.
