It's getting harder and harder to say that homosexuality is a choice. First, there is homosexuality present in nature. Many species that don't have the higher mental capacity for making 'decisions' as humans can have homosexual members of their populations. I can also tell you that I didn't just suddenly decide to like women. They happen to turn me on, and there is not much more to it. Most people have similar experiences as well. Finally, there is a piling amount of evidence that sexuality is not a choice. Check out this Time article for instance on the differences between the gay and straight brains: http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1815538,00.html

Another thing - I am an atheist. My girlfriend is Christian. If our relationship continues to stay strong over the next couple years (which I am sure it will) we will probably get married. Why do religious folk not get up in arms over this type of thing??

Even if our scientific evidence turns out to be wrong and we find out homosexuality is a choice (which is very doubtful), so what? Gay people aren't hurting anybody, and they deserve equal rights. Note that most states do not in fact even allow civil unions between same-sex couples.

Another reason for gay marriage - if it is legalized, NOBODY WILL BE FORCING YOUR CHURCHES/SYNAGOGUES/ETC TO PERFORM THE CEREMONIES!! So if your religious institution continues to irrationally claim that homosexuality is wrong, they don't have to perform the marriages if they don't want to.

Which brings me to my final point. The human race has come a long way since slavery, cruel punishments, racism (although not perfect yet), etc. And you know what? All of these things are actually SUPPORTED in the religious texts! So my question is - why do some people still cling to homosexuality = sin, when clearly (at least I hope), they no longer support these other terrible values?

One thing I would like to say is... What the f*ck... Seriously... My thread.... This thread... Arguing... My thread we were arguing about the color of blood which is insignificant compared to this thread...

That said, I believe that gay marriage is fine. The main people opposing it are religious people. And I don't know if you people know about Proposition 8 in California which bans gay marriages, but it passed. And lots of people are protesting to lift the ban. Yes, the people have spoken, but the people who spoke are the religious people. And separation of church and state prevents religion and government from mixing. Plus, this would rewrite the constitution and take rights away from people. That's just plain wrong. And as ninerman said if it is legalized, churches can refuse to do the ceremonies. Just a question, in what way do churches lose anything if it is legalized? Just what? Nothing! They don't lose anything. In fact, I see churches as the real evil, they are basically shunning gay people out of their religion. What if a child was Christian, but during their teenage years, something happens in their brain and become homosexual. Would the church turn that person away?

This is productive debating its not several people bickering over the same thing with no attempt to consider the arguments like yours way.

Yes, church and state should be seperated, that doesn't stop religious people voting based on their religion, that would be undemocratic, further more, as i've said before, historically seperation of church and state is a new idea, marriage as a legal binding is an example of this.

Proposition 8 is a a joke because it doesn't prevent homosexuals from getting married, it takes away marriage which they had formerly had, that is why it is unconstitutional, with that said, wouldn't a truly democratic state mean that 8 would have to go into effect?

If a teenager 'turns homosexual' they still can go to church, the point is homosexual sex is sodomy and marriage legitimizes it, considering the belief that sex is (should be ;)) something confined, and condoned, to marriages.

Excellent point. Not saying your other points weren't excellent, because they were, but this is particularly excellent. If Atheists are able to get married, when they not only don't believe there is a god, but believe there isn't a god, then why aren't religious homosexuals, who believe there is a god, able to get married?

I think it's pretty safe to say that views like that are pretty much invalid nowadays.

gays themselves are to say the least a cancer to society, and a very serious treath to order, so I´m against anything that has to do with them.

For any particular reason? Or have you just decided to discriminate against them for the sake of reassuring yourself that there's at least one group of people you're better than?

You need to look at yourself now.

Why do you dislike gay and bi people? What is it that you stand for, that WE stand against?

Yes I said we for a reason.

So you're extending your hatred to anyone who's unfortunate enough to not share you opinion? How level-headed of you.

Overall, your desire to post blanket insults about them without actually giving any reasons why, other than saying that they, as a whole, stand against everything you stand for which doesn't really make sense as gays don't really 'stand' for anything other than their own social demograph, can only really lead to the one of the conclusions that you have either been exposed to some serious anti-gay propaganda sometime during your life or are just a supremacist.

Or that you're just compensating for something of course.

He may be having these feelings, and is either ashamed, or is afraid of being shunned.

Repression, I went through this. Back between 16ish and 18ish years old.

Atleast GM_k had an order to his ignorance, you are simply someone who believes they are better than the rest of the world and will support anything that helps make that delusion become a reality.

Edruken please continue crashing and burning I don't want to stand in your way.

Rojo I very much resent the blonde hair blue eyes comment. Just because a madman thought people with blonde and blue eyes was the master race doesn't mean people with those traits do so.

I believe the bible does not come into laws at all. I see absolutely no reason why gay marriage shouldn't be legal. If the bible says something against it then let the Christians not allow gay marriages in their churches. I don't care what their whole "belief" is. This country was founded on the principles of separating church and state. The fact that we as a nation are standing by while the christian community rips apart the foundation on which the United States was founded is just appalling. There is no factual reason why the homosexual couples with in the US should not be allowed to marry. There for it should be legal that they marry. This is basically in my opinion the failure of the Supreme Court as its there to prevent this kind of discrimination. The fact that this is the topic on Christianities mind just annoys the hell out of me. What is Gay marriage hurting? Who is put at a loss because two men or two women decide to marry? I can't think of any, and until someone can provide proof that it causes actual harm then it shouldn't be illegal.

As for polygamy I think its a bad idea to have this legalized. Gay marriage is one thing but when you put more then one people into a marriage all your doing is making a bad situation. If they end up divorcing the person providing for the other spouses stands to loose everything. It just creates debt which I think we can all agree we need less of. I am not saying its wrong to let more then two people into a marriage I just think the risks to the countries economy out way the benefits. Because divorce is also a new thing and we haven't worked the details out that well on the whole finance part of it.

Yes, monogamy is the way. You can't have love between that many people. If you're not marrying for love, then don't do it.

Who says you can't love them? How many polygamists have you known dark? I personally know three of them, one with five wives. They all love their wives very much. Yes, all of them. And, contrary to what you might think, do indeed hold a special place for their first wife while still loving and respecting all of them.

Again love is a "belief" nothing factual. Regardless if its there or not polygamy still poses as a risk to the general public. Because if the person providing money to the two spouses divorcing goes into debt then looses his job and maybe goes on welfare. So because these (lets just say for example.) three people got married with out thinking about it. One of them is put into debt and the general public is left footing the bill. I think that if it were to be legalized that people should have at least two of the spouses should have been married for a minimal amount of time before being allowed to make another addition. But it still poses just as great a risk either way.
