You could make the same argument for one on one marriage.

Well if someone in a two person marriage were to divorce the one who is providing for the couple is held responsible still true. However he/she wont be forced pay to multiple spouses. Which is guaranteed trip to the poor house. If its just one spouse its not as likely to hurt the provider as badly. Depending on his financial status. But even if you had twenty million in the bank. You would still be in the poor house if you had two or more spouses divorcing you.

I am no more against polygamy than gay marriage however polygamy has a couple of issues that are unique to it and must be overcome before being deemed legal. The biggest one is the legal chain of command that would need to be established for a 3+ person marriage. Right now its easy since marriages only contain two people when one is out of comission the responsibility imdieately falls to next the same can't be said for polygamy. Polygamy needs to have a legal system setup for it before it is legalized.

Naturally. I'm not saying everyone should just go out and marry 12 people.

It should be gender and orientation neutral with monetary limits.

I agree. I don't think its wrong morally but as long as the laws today stay the way they are around marriages. I think it should stay illegal. However, if the day comes we have a legal system that can make it more defined then I think it should be legalized. Sadly, we don't have that legal system yet, and so I think it should remain illegal.

Doesn't the process of making something legal (that was formerly illegal) inherently involve adjusting the legal system so that it works?

It seems curricular to think that the lack of a legal system should be justification for maintaining a lack of a legal system.

Those were just my personal feelings on it. If you want polygamy, go ahead, it isn't hurting me any. Just make sure that everyone in the relationship is fine with it.

I personally couldn't do it. Too jealous.

I wouldn't be involved in a polygamous marriage but then I wouldn't I go out with a guy either. I am a strong believer in choice regarding most things.

Yeah it involves adjusting but we should do it one step at a time. If we don't we can have errors in the laws and make mistakes when enforcing them. Divorce as I said is a relatively new idea, and needs to be improved on until we can allow things such as polygamy to exist. Having marriage stand for a legal/government recognized institution is also relatively new. So first we need to improve monogamist marriages before we can get into polygamy.
As for fixing laws them self's it just takes time. Washington works very slow, and for a good reason. Transitioning into something like legal system that accepts a complex marriage like polygamy isn't easy. However, if you want to try and push to make it legal faster then all you have to do is become active and get people to vote for it. Which is why we have democracy and freedom of speech in the first place.

As much as it is a law question it is a culture/moral question. But IMO the minorities should always be defended, so Im in for it all ;)

I'm fine with polygamy provided that women are allowed to have multiple husbands, just as men are allowed to have multiple wives. That said, I think it's best that countries where polygamy or monogamy are legal should remain as they are. Suddenly legalising or prohibiting polygamy would take more than a bit of adjusting to, not only in terms of law but in terms of social views, etc, as well.

Because it would take a certain amount of social an political effort? Even though it's a change for the better? That's a good reason to oppose a cultural change? Really?

That's like saying, "I'm okay with blacks being free. That said I think countries that allow or prohibit slavery should stay as they are. Suddenly legalizing or prohibiting slavery would take more than a bit of adjusting to, not only in terms of law but in terms of social views, etc, as well."

I think if a culture can handle a dramatic change in the views of blacks, women, and gays over the course of 100 years, it can definitely handle the relatively small stress of legally recognizing multi-partner relationships. Yeah, it's a smaller minority than the others, but it should still be recognized.

No, it's not like that at all. It's like suddenly legalising drugs. I'm fine with countries where drugs are legal, though I wouldn't like Australia, or any country really, to suddenly legalise them. Firstly there are the people that will simply abuse it, which'll lead to all sorts of problems, tie up the courts, etc, etc, then there would be the social attitudes which are already biased against it, where although it's legal people will still think of it as a 'crime', and to basically sum everything up under the one heading, people just won't really 'understand' it, as no-one would be used to it, as it's legalisation would simply bring about too great a cultural change.

I'm not opposing it, I'm just saying that, as I see it, it would be hard to integrate polygamy into a monogamous society. It's hardly a 'small stress', and it's not as much about rights as it is about a change in culture.

So am i, i support the notion of gay marriage. I have a friend who's gay. He one of the closest people in my life. He has given me support when i needed it and he's caring. Being gay doesn't make you any different than the person next to you. They are still the ones you love. So let them be happy by allowing them to choose their own paths in life.

I question what gays have to do with an oppressed proletariat...But i guess what your saying stems from the propaganda which still exists in many socialist countries...Big business not caring who the hell you are as long as you can make stuff is a plus to capitalism. Its funny how the nazi's and Americans said homosexual rights groups were communists and the communists said they were facists. Scapegoating at its finest gentlemen!

The only sensible reason to be against gay marriage is if you believe that the fact they cannot have babies means they shouldn't recieve government welfare(I support less stringent welfare so obvisouly its supporting gay marriage all the way baby!).

Ultimately 5-10% less men looking for a girl is a good thing for the rest of us ;D.

In general, homosexuals do corrupt society, as they tend to oppose family coesion, long lasting marriage, and instead favour horrorific changes, abuses and corruption to human nature like Gender change and such crap, and instead promote indiscrimate sex, drug abuse and such kind of stuff, they are a cancer to society, and for me, who wants the best for my society and people, they do no good and a lot of harm, so they stand against me. For me it´s simple.

How do we oppose family cohesion? Some gay marriages have lasted longer then a great deal of hetero marriages.

We do not promote indiscriminate sex, some people do, but they give bi's and gay's as a whole a bad name as sex fiends. You can't peg us all that way.

Drug abuse? Ok what the hell are you talking about then?

How do gays corrupt society, pray tell? Some of our greatest cultural achievements were done by homosexuals. Plays, music, pieces of art.

Horrific changes? If you want horror, look no further than the opposite end of the spectrum. The conservatives commit the true horrors. Desecration of land, murders, wars. I'm sorry, but I consider the wanton slaughter of innocents far more horrific than two dudes getting married.

Are you like from the early nineties or something? The sex and drugs thing has been disproved for decades. Of course, one who's as closeminded as you would just ignore that, since it doesn't fit your small world view.

Cultural achievements? Says who? Currently art has been prostitued not only by fags but in general, so don´t come and tell me of cultural achivements. What do they serve also in a country where there is still people that can´t read and write, culture can be seen both ways, for me any of those plays, songs or paints are worthless, they prove nothing.

Changing the purity of form of the human race is corrupting it, it´s going against mankind and even God if you believe, the nature made us so man and woman should go together, not man and man or woman and woman, NATURE made us "straight" and going against it is going against nature, against logic and against reason, it´s rebelling against what you are, so another form of corrupting nature.

In Horrors I mean the atrocity of mutilating the body of a person to achieve an unnatural and corrupt goal, it´s striking against your most sacred thing, yourself, transgender operations should be banned, and if It would be for me they would be.

I´m just a socialist with strong beliefs, a humanist also, and for me all those homosexuals are a plage to society as the american imperialism is a plage to this world, VIVA LA REVOLUCIÓN.
